Manchester United midfield target Ilkay Gundogan has confirmed that he has held talks with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The Borussia Dortmund man has impressed since returning last October from a lengthy spell on the sidelines. His form has seen him attract interest from top clubs across Europe as United, along with Barcelona and Bayern are reportedly interested in signing him.

The Germany international has one year left on his contract and has already refused to sign a new deal as he looks for a move away from his current employers. He has dropped a massive hint that he will leave Dortmund in the summer.

When asked if he is learning Bavarian or Spanish, Gundogan said: “We are holding talks yes, but no decision has been made. I can’t say more than that on this.”

“I’ll leave it open as to whether they continue without me. BVB are a great team and a really good coach is coming.”

“I don’t know how the team will look next season. The challenge will be to get the great potential of this team back on the pitch. We managed to do that too little during the last year. In some ways we’re glad this difficult season is over now.”

If Gundogan decides to join Barcelona, he can only complete a move in January 2016 as the La Liga winners have been handed a transfer ban. Dortmund have seen Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski leave the club and make a switch to the Allianz Arena.

The Signal Iduna Park outfit may block their player joining the direct rivals, leaving United to land him in the summer transfer window. However, a move to Bayern for Gundogan could then see Louis van Gaal try to lure his former player Bastian Schweinsteiger join the Premier League club.

The World Cup winning star has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and has refused to comment on the speculation as he also have just one year left on his contract. If United secure Gundogan, they could cool their interest in signing Schweinsteiger.
