Ryan Giggs, Manchester United’s stand-in captain for the pre-season tour to South Africa, will sport the 2006/2007 kit when United play their first pre-season match on 14th July (next friday).
There have been lots of rumours going around in the forums regarding the design of Manchester United’s new home kit although most of them are fake, photoshopped versions. I’d prefer and wait – although if you’re interested, I’ve included the training kit pic from Getty Images (authentic) and the home kit pic floating around on the Internet (definitely fake) below.
Official Manchester United statement:
“Manchester United’s new home kit will be revealed to the world next Friday.
All United home kits are special but the new home kit to be revealed on 14 July is particularly so. The Nike designed strip has a 1950’s retro style — a tribute to the success of the Busby Babes and their enduring influence.”
The article then goes on to talk about the 50s and the Busby Babes – if you’re interested, here’s the link: Man Utd Kit To Be Revealed On July 14th.
Also from the same article:
“Fans who know their history may see similarities between the kit donned by Duncan Edwards in 1956 and the strip that Ryan Giggs will wear in South Africa next Saturday, when United play their first pre-season match.
We’d love to show you more but the design of the kit is strictly under wraps until Friday when it will be unveiled at a special photocall at the ABSA Stadium, Durban, South Africa.”
I’ll be bringing you the kit pics as soon as they are out. If you want to be one of the first people to know when the kit is released, just subscribe to the site’s RSS feed or head to the contact page and drop me a line with the subject ‘send me the kit pics!’.
Here are the two kit pictures I promised:
The lining is gold, not white (as it looks from the pics). I think this fits in with the ‘retro’ look as well as staying true to recent trends, although the AIG logo is a problem. Maybe if they removed the box around it?
Photoshopped Kit (Fake)
It’s a bad replica of the one Park was seen in when AIG were formally announced as sponsors, and the AIG logo is photoshopped. United themselves have said that those kits were temporary, which is why I’m betting the new kit will look like the previous pic (training kit) more than this horrendous image.
Remember, the new kit design will be launched on July 14th. Watch this space.
