According to reports in the French media, Manchester United have begun talks with PSG for the transfer of highly rated young centre back Marquinhos.

It is believed that United have sounded out their interest to the French champions and are willing to meet their 40 million euro valuation. United’ need for a defender is no secret as the Red Devils have dropped important points home and away this season due to a porous defence.

United have often fielded a makeshift back four in the first half of the season due to recurring injuries to the likes of Luke Shaw, Phil Jones, Johnny Evans etc. Louis Van Gaal realises that in order to cement their position in top three, United will need to improve on their defensive showings from the first half of the season.

The former Roma centre back is extremely talented, but finds himself in and out of the team due to the presence of Thiago Silva and David Luiz, both of whom are marquee signings and are the first names of Blanc’ team-sheet. Marquinhos is believed to be willing to make a move in order to play regularly at a high level and a club like Manchester United will definitely interest him.

The Brazilian defender could complete his move to Manchester United within the next 48 hours, should PSG manage to find a replacement, which remains the only issue with the deal.

Should Manchester United manage to pull it off, Marquinhos is certainly going to be one of the signings of the window.
