Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has revealed his preferred formation for next season.

Further, based on the pre-season assumptions can be made about the Manchester United lineup as well.

When asked about the system he will choose against Tottenham on the opening day of the Premier league, Van Gaal responded with ‘4-3-3’.

The Manchester United manager explained that the side are used to playing a 4-3-3 since the end of last season and will continue in the same system against Spurs on the opening day.

“More or less 4-3-3,” he answered.

“We played that already last season, in the second half of the season, and I have said that is the system I want to use. We played in our shape [on tour] and played how we have to play. That’s also where I have been very satisfied.”

In that case Van Gaal’s midfield is most likely Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger, provided the German is fit. Michael Carrick remains an option in adverse circumstances.

Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata seem set to be the front three against Spurs, unless United make any other forward signings.

Luke Shaw and Darmian have had excellent pre-seasons and are set to start as full backs. Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are expected to be the starting centre backs, unless Otamendi comes in.

Further, Van Gaal has been hinting about a transfer for De Gea, claiming the situation is not ideal and the player wants to leave. Therefore, we could very well see Sergio Romero having his debut against Spurs.
