Arsenal and Manchester United target striker Mario Mandzukic is not going anywhere in the January transfer window, as claimed by Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Bayern have signed Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski, who will join them next summer on a free transfer. His signing could see Mandzukic dropping down the pecking orders at the club.

“We’re very happy with Mario,” Rummenigge said on his club’s website. “He made a major contribution to us winning so many titles last year. I just have to think back to the goal in London.

“He’s a fantastic player who has come on leaps and bounds with Bayern.

“His contract runs until 2016 and I told his advisor in Marrakech that we would be willing to talk about an extension. We have absolutely no intention of selling Mario.”

There you go, any chance of a potential transfer is highly unlikely in the winter transfer window but both Arsenal and Manchester United can make a bid for him in the summer. The 27-year-old striker has scored 10 Bundesliga goals in 12 appearances this season.

Rummenigge has also quashed suggestions that Bayern have been monitoring the situation of Chelsea’s David Luiz, claiming “he is not an issue for us.”
