Manchester United will entertain city rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon in what promises to be an early season title clash. With three-quarters of the season still to play, suggestions of tomorrow’s derby being a title decider look a bit far-fetched at the moment, thoughts echoed by Manchester United’s summer signing Morgan Schneiderlin.

Manchester United News: Schneiderlin keen to do well for his new club

Schneiderlin has been a key player for the Red Devils this term, and will be expected to be part of United’s starting eleven for what will be his first taste of the derby. The Frenchman has played down the buzz surrounding the fixture, as he believes the result of tomorrow’s game won’t mean the end of the season for the losing team, as there is quite a lot to play for in the season after tomorrow’s game.

However, he feels a win tomorrow will be a chance for United to prove their title credentials in front of the Old Trafford faithful, although he feels it will not make or break their season.

“It won’t say everything about how the rest of the season will go but it will mark a print [in the season]. And, if we can win this game and beat City and possibly get back to first place, it will make a statement again. So, for us, it’s very important to do that especially in front of our own fans. But, whatever happens, it won’t be the end, we still need to work hard because it’s a long season,” Schneiderlin told Manchester United’s official website.

United, who currently occupy the third spot in the league table, have a chance to overtake City in the standings with a win. Last season, the Red Devils beat City 4-2 in the corresponding fixture with goals from Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Chris Smalling and Juan Mata. City’s goalscorer that day, Sergio Aguero, will sit the game out through a leg injury.
