English tabloids have a history of cooking up transfer stories in their quest for page views. Unfortunately, the practice has spread like wildfire and there is absolutely no way that it can be quelled thanks to the enormous presence of media outlets in Europe and all over the world.

Today we take a look at a majority of English tabloids claiming that Liverpool have agreed on a £3m deal to sign Malaga goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa in January as a replacement for Simon Mignolet. There is no doubt that the Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has grown tired of Mignolet’s repeated mistakes and wants to sign a shot stopper who brings a calming influence under the sticks.

Ochoa had a fantastic World Cup for Mexico, helping his side to the last sixteen of the showcase tournament in Brazil. Daily Express were the first to report tho story but they haven’t cited any source from Spain regarding the transfer move. Metro have also published the story ans in fact cited Daily Express while Daily Star haven’t cited a source too.

We have taken a stand against such reports as we believe that the Spanish media is better placed than their English counter parts to report a story locally. Inside Spanish Football have however claimed that there is no such agreement.

The club’s Sporting director Mario Husillos, in a weekly radio show appearance on Cadena COPE has clearly denied and approach and that at the Reds have agreed to sign Ochoa. Malaga though have received offers for other players and could likely part with their players to balance and improve their finances.

Ochoa who was signed as a free agent from French side Ajaccio in the summer but hasn’t played in more than 1 appearance for Malaga. Manager Javi Garcia has gone with Carlos Kameni who has been in inspired form this season but his decision hasn’t gone down well with Mexico coach Miguel Herrera who understandably wants his number one to play as many games as possible. But it doesn’t mean you would unnecessarily link a player to a club who needs a goalkeeper. Why would Malaga sell even before they have signed a replacement?

In fact this is not the first time that Ochoa’s move to Liverpool has been generated by the British tabloids. Daily Express who are pioneers of such stories had also claimed earlier in November that Liverpool have agreed on a £4m deal to sign the player. The same story seems to have been regenerated but the figure in fact has gone down by £1m. And there are talks of Fair Football Journalism.I definitely hope so till the next time ‘Ochoa signs for Liverpool’ for £2m.
