Louis van Gaal has started his World Cup preparations with HollandManchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed the Red Devils’ win over Inter Milan was his “best match so far.”

The Premier League club faced the Italian outfit in a pre-season friendly in the ongoing International Champions Cup in Washington DC. Van Gaal saw his men register wins in the first two games, before the start of the fixture against Inter.

United had a comfortable 7-0 win over LA Galaxy, while defeating Inter’s league rivals AS Roma 3-2 in the next friendly. During the clash against the Nerazzurri, the game ended in a goalless draw before the course of the match had to be decided on penalties.

The Red Devils won 5-3 on penalties and the victory has seen the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager maintain his unbeaten record with United.

“I am very pleased. I think we played by far the best match of our sequence of three,” Van Gaal told United’s official website.

“They only had one shot on our goal and that was given by the referee [a free-kick], but I think we also created six or seven chances, so then it is seven against one.”

“I was very pleased with our ball possession; it was much better than the other matches. And I think also the positions were better covered.”

“So I was tonight very pleased with the performance of my players, both in the first half and the second half,” United manager added.

Inter had only one shot on target and that came from a free-kick. In other words, the San Siro outfit did not create any chance from open play. Despite the previous two games had seen several goals, Van Gaal is delighted cause his side did not allow Inter to create chances during the game.
