Liverpool plotting January move for Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Luis Enrique’s Barcelona just wrapped up a title winning calendar year by lifting the Club World Cup in Yokohama. But one squad player who is not enthused at this success is goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen was considered to be one of the best goalkeepers a year back and when Barcelona signed him, everyone thought a long term replacement for Victor Valdes had been procured.

However, as much as Valdes is out of favour at his current club, Ter Stegen is also left with a position on the bench, having made only four appearances in eighteen months.

The arrival of Chilean Claudio Bravo (after his fabulous showing in the 2014 FIFA World Cup) has sealed the fate for the young Germany international. Marca reports that as a consequence of lack of the first team action, Ter Stegen is looking for an exit in the January transfer window.

Liverpool fans were quick to take the cue and they have urged the club to sign him up, not surprising given the club is beset with their own goalkeeping problems. Although there has been no official interest from the club as yet, this could be a good option for the Reds as Ter Stegen might maximise his potential under a fellow German manager and would also be a viable long term option for the club.
