According to reports from Spanish outlet El Confidencial, Liverpool are plotting a move for unsettled Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi. The Reds could also ask former player Xabi Alonso for guidance on the former Real Sociedad playmaker.

Only last week, we had reported that Illarramendi’s future at the Spanish capital has been put under a huge doubt as the Galacticos signed Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro. Arsenal are also interested in the player while Athletic Bilbao have reportedly offered €24m for the Spaniard’s services.

However there is no guarantee that Real will sell the player whom they bought for a whopping €32m in the summer of 2013. Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde also remained coy when asked about his side’s interest in the player, “If he comes or if the club says something, they’ll tell me what my options are. Right now, I don’t know anything. The club hasn’t said anything.”

But Real manager Carlo earlier made it clear that he won’t sell, “Illarra is a Real Madrid player,”Nothing has changed. He is a player of Real Madrid and though it’s true he hasn’t played much, we still have confidence in him. He’s important in the locker room.”
