Liverpool lodge bid for Adam Lallana

Liverpool have lodged an official bid for Southampton winger and skipper Adam Lallana.

According to reports from BBC Radio Solent, the Reds have made the first official move for the winger, who has enjoyed a terrific campaign this season, scoring 10 goals in 42 games for Southampton.

Lallana is set to named in the World Cup squad for England and admitted in Sunday’s pre-match programme that he wants to play in the Champions League.

“I’m ambitious. I want to one day play in the Champions League,” said Lallana.

Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger also added: “The reason people look at our players is because the club does an excellent job developing them. It should be difficult here every summer.

“It is really important that people respect that there will be conversations going on, beginning on Monday, with clubs. That is part of the business.”

Last week, James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo mentioned that Rodgers is ready to spend big on a goal scoring midfielder, while Sky Sports sources claimed Liverpool are looking to complete a move for Lallana before the World Cup and deal set to be in excess of £20m.

Luke Shaw is also being linked with a move away from St Mary’s with Manchester United have reported to have bid £27m for Lallana’s team-mate.

Lallana came through the youth ranks of Southampton academy that produced top quality players like Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Liverpool finished the season on second place in the Premier League, two points behind of Champions Manchester City.
