According L’Equipe, Sakho is set to sign a 4-year-contract with the Reds, and will earn €100k a week at Liverpool.

The 23-year-old France international, who had just one year remaining at his contract was determined to ply trade away from France, while Serie A giants Roma were also thought to be interested in his signature.

Defence was one of the key areas that needed reinforcements for the Reds in the summer and manager Brendan Rodgers was forced consider deals for both llori and Sakho, the two players heavily linked throughout the summer, following injury to Kolo Toure, while playing against Notts County in the Capital One Cup tie.

Sakho, who can also play as a left-back (he also played as goal keeper in his last match for the Ligue 1 champions) is already an established star in the international arena, as he has bagged 14 caps for his nation already. The highly promising youngster would add sufficient quality that will help the Reds mount a strong challenge for the Champions League spot.

He will become the sixth major singing of the summer following the arrivals of Kolo Toure, Simon Mignolet, Luis Alberto, Aly Cissokho and Iago Aspas.

Liverpool are also looking to secure a deal for Sporting defender Tiago llori and according to reports from The Telegraph, the Reds are closing in on a £8 million deal for him.
