While I know Mourinho’s on the hunt for a striker, Bellamy has too many issues to play for Jose (then again, Drogba plays there so who knows). It would be a cheap buy and an effective replacement for Gudjohnsen / Crespo if nothing else.
Rovers aren’t happy about it, and I’m thinking that if Jose does go for Bellamy (unlikely), Mark Hughes will point to SWP and Scott Parker as examples of good players going from small clubs to Chelsea and being wasted. Then again, Bellamy likes being the center of attention so I doubt he’d shift either, unless Roman throws money. But for Bellamy? come on…
A more realistic rumor floating around is that Liverpool want to snap up SWP from Chelsea – it’s not like Mourinho to accept his mistakes, and like it or not buying SWP was a big mistake. Would Chelsea cash in on a 14 mil player and use that cash to buy someone else (financial prudence, for one)? Seeing how that would help Liverpool’s cause, I doubt it.
There’s also word that RVN is heading back to Holland to team up with the Dutch squad for World Cup training. If true, it’s very understandable, but history (and the media) will side with Ferguson and I doubt Ruud van Nistelrooy will ever be seen as being wronged in this case.
Where Manchester United is concerned, we’ve been linked with midfielders and strikers left and right.
Midfielders – Diarra (Lyon), Carrick (Spurs), Nolan (Bolton), Gattuso (Milan)
Man Utd is already putting together a bid for Diarra, and a bid for Carrick / Nolan is very likely on the cards as well.
Strikers – Obafemi Martins (Inter), Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid), Eidur Gudjohnsen (Chelsea)
The Gudjohnsen rumor is a hoax, but Martins and Torres are very realistic opportunities, especially since RVN would be going the other way.
