Mesut Ozil

Arsenal’s Mesut Özil has been sent for an MRI scan by the German national team ahead of their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Poland and the Republic of Ireland over the coming week.

The Gunners midfielder did play the full 90 minutes in their 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Sunday.

However, his availability for the national team this week is now in doubt.  The Guardian have quoted Germany’s spokesman Jens Grittner:

“Second training without Schürrle (individually at the hotel) and Özil. He had travelled with knee problems, is to have an MRI scan in Munich.”

Defending World Champions Germany kicked off their Euro 2016 qualifying last month with a 2-1 win at home to Scotland last month.

Mesut Özil has completed all six of the Premier League matches that he has started this season, although has completed neither of the two UEFA Champions League group stage matches he started.

The 25-year old has one goal and one assist in these six Premier League appearances so far this season. He has been used behind the striker and on both wings by manager Arsène Wenger.

Fellow Arsenal teammate Lukas Podolski is also in Joachim Löw’s 23-man squad.
