Juventus are rumoured to be interested in poaching Rafael Benitez from Liverpool, even though the Spaniard has repeatedly stated his desire to stay for a long time at Anfield if the owners give him the requisite backing.
My view is that the Juventus management made a mistake in hiring Ranieri when they should have kept Deschamps for another season and waited for the likes of Mourinho to get free. The manager who thrives on being hated coupled with the most hated club in Italy would have been an irresistable combination.
As things stand, Juve now have Ranieri who as a tactician will be hard-pressed to outclass the Milan teams.
Will they get Rafa? If G & H royally cock it up, anything’s possible, although Rafa would have a host of suitors, including Madrid.
Plus wherever Rafa goes, he’s bound to take a couple of players with him. Liverpool could stand losing, say, Babel or Pennant and maybe even without Alonso, but can they do so without Torres or, god forbid, Gerrard?
More proof, as if any were needed, that Liverpool need owners who aren’t reliant on banks to help the club reach it’s potential.
