Vidal-Juventus1Manchester United can sign Arturo Vidal in the summer transfer window only if the midfielder asks to leave Juventus for Old Trafford move, says Juventus CEO Guiseppe Marotta.

The Chilean international has been linked with a move to the Premier League club all throughout the summer as United manager Louis van Gaal set to land him in this ongoing transfer window.

Earlier we reported that Vidal has returned to training after completing his medical before the start of the season. United’s interest is concrete and are preparing a club-record bid of €60m in signing the Chilean international.

The Serie A champions are keen on holding on to their star player, who recently signed a contract extension. However, Marotta says the South American midfielder could leave the Old Lady only if he personally inform the club that he is looking for an exit from Juventus this summer.

“We have clear ideas. We renewed [Vidal’s] contract a few months ago just because we knew we could count on an important element,” Marotta told Sky Italia.

“We don’t want to sell Vidal, there are only rumours because he is a player among the best in the world. We never activated a clause to try to sell him – if he doesn’t show an intention to leave, our position won’t change,” he added.

With Michael Carrick injured for the next 10-12 weeks, United need a midfielder in his position. Vidal could be an ideal candidate and failure to land him could see Van Gaal wait till January till he lands his compatriot Kevin Strootman from AS Roma.

The Dutch international is currently on the sidelines after suffering a serious injury earlier this year. Strootman is likely to return to the first team this autumn.
