James Rodriguez had an outstanding 2014 FIFA World Cup where the Colombian won the Golden boot for scoring six goals in the competition. As a result of his sensational performances in Brazil, he caught the attention of big European clubs, namely Manchester United and Real Madrid.

British newspapers, especially the tabloids have linked the 23-year-old heavily with a move to Manchester United, with The Express even claimed that the Red Devils were preparing a mega bid for his signature. It seemed to us that there is hardly any iota of truth in such stories, but we were pretty convinced that he is a genuine target of Real Madrid.

According to Cadena Ser, Real Madrid and Monaco have reached an agreement in principle to sign James Rodriguez, with the fee set to be in the region of €70m.

They claim Rodriguez will be donning the prestigious white shirt in coming days, more precisely, within this week. He will be officially presented at the end of this week and will join the tour in USA with new club-mates. If the deal goes through, he will become the sixth most expensive player in the history of Real Madrid.

The summer is shaping up nicely for the reigning European Champions having already signed Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich.
