Internazionale have won the Seria A league championship for the fifth consecutive season thanks to Diego Milto’s 57th minute winner against Siena.
The Nerazzurri have now won the domestic cup double after defeating AS Roma in the Italian cup final earlier this month and will now turn their attention to next week’s Champions League final against Bayern Munich who themselves have won the league and cup double. Whoever wins that will win a remarkable treble, a feat never before accomplished by a side in their respective countries.
Jose Mourinho was left in a flood of tears after the game in an array of pure joy and emotion as he pointed to the heavens. His job this season has been nothing short of admirable.
Inter knew prior to the game at the Stadio Artemio Franchi that a win would cement their legacy. “This is surely the most important goal of my career and I am so happy,” he said
“We had lots of chances but it was also a difficult game. Luckily I scored and we were able to win.
“The goal made things tranquil and it helped us.”
Inter have now won eighteen domestic league titles. The Beneamata have now surpassed local rivals AC Milan who now linger on seventeen. Jose Mourinho’s success this season is a vast contrast to that of Leonardo who announced last Friday that he will be stepping down as head coach of The Rossoneri after a largely disappointing season both domestically and in Europe.
Inter will now prepare for Saturdays Champions League final in the city of Madrid where they will go head to head with Bayern Munich. Both sides are now chasing a treble and whoever comes out victorious will achieve immortality. Bayern wrapped up the Bundesliga last week before coasting to a German Cup final victory over Werder Bremen.
Jose Mourinho tried his best to hold back the tears after his side’s success as he waved to the Inter fans. The Portuguese tactician’s future in Italy is in doubt after freely admitting a number of times this season he is unhappy in Italy and did so again after the game.
“This is not my home. This is not an easy place to work and be happy.” He admitted.
“There has been no time to think. Now it’s an historic week for Inter and we want to give everything we have.”
Prior to his comments he shunned questions from journalists asking him about being touted for the Real Madrid hot seat to succeed Manuel Pellegrini. The 47 year olds only concern in this moment of time is his own club as he prepares his side for their first European Cup final since 1972.
Whatever happens in Jose Mourinho’s future, he will undoubtedly be seen as a saviour by the Inter fans who are witnessing success both domestically and in Europe. Comparisons will be drawn up of him and the late great Helenio Herrera, who guided the Milan side to two European Cup successes back in the mid sixties.
