Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel could well be on the move this summer, with Inter Milan reportedly keen on taking the Nigerian international to Serie A.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the new Inter owner Erick Thohir is keen to splash the cash this summer, and continue to revamp the current squad, with Mikel firmly on the transfer agenda.

With the likes of Fredy Guarin and January signing Hernanes in the centre, Inter are said to be after a physical, defensive presence to add to the mix. Mikel fits the bill and, as La Gazzetta continues to say, the 26-year-old is interested in jumping ship at the end of the current campaign.

With Chelsea having snapped up Nemanja Matic from Benfica, Mikel’s first-team opportunities are becoming less frequent, and he is said to be entertaining the idea of a change of scenery.

Mikel, who has been at Stamford Bridge since 2006, is valued at around €15m, with his contract still good until 2017, but Inter could attempt to persuade Jose Mourinho to part with the player on loan, or potentially in a player-swap deal.
