Manchester United Striker On Hull City’s Radar

It’s not easy being Danny Welbeck. Despite having undoubted talent, the Englishman has been unable to hold down a regular place in the Manchester United team since making his debut for the Red Devils back in 2008. That’s hardly surprising, considering the quality that United have had up front over the years. Playing well enough to start ahead of both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie is no mean task for any striker in the world.

Reports have now emerged that despite impressing in pre-season, Welbeck could be on his way out of the club. The Guardian has reported that Hull City are preparing an audacious £14 million bid for the 24 year-old, which would make him the Tigers’ club-record signing.

Hull manager Steve Bruce is in the market looking for a replacement for Shane Long, who has agreed to join Southampton. Watford captain Troy Deeney is also on Bruce’s wish-list, but the priority seems to Welbeck.

Welbeck has scored 39 goals for United in 139 appearances in all competitions, with his most famous strike coming at the Santiago Bernabeu in a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid. He does not seem to be a part of new manager Louis Van Gaal’s plans though, as the Dutchman plans a complete overhaul of the team that finished a lowly 7th last season.
