Liverpool have been handed a major boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday, with Gareth Bale ruled out of the match for the La Liga giants.

The former Spurs player picked up an injury to his gluteal muscle on international duty with Wales last week, and remained absent in Real Madrid’s 5-0 win over Levante on Saturday this weekend.

According to reports from Liverpool Echo, scans on his injury have confirmed that the Welshman will miss the trip to Anfield. Furthermore, he is also likely to miss next weekend’s El Clasico against Barcelona at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are top of Champions League Group B, having taken maximum points from their two games. Liverpool on the other hand are third in the table with three points on board.

Last time when Real Madrid visited Anfield, the Los Blancos suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat in the Champions League quarter final against Rafa’s Liverpool. Although, Liverpool are struggling badly in the league, the Reds will be hoping to raise their game on Wednesday and give the reigning European champions a tough fight at least.

Madrid are also sweating over the fitness of midfielder Luka Modric, who took a knock and limped out against Levante, but could be fit enough to play against Liverpool on Wednesday.
