Former Barcelona great Hristo Stoichkov has left a warning message for Barca forward Pedro Rodriguez, who is a reported target of Manchester United. The former Bulgarian international has urged Pedro not to link up with the “bad person” and “mediocre” Louis van Gaal at United.
Stoichkov has simply blasted the United manager Louis van Gaal, claiming the Dutch coach is destroying the Premier League club in the same way he destroyed Barcelona.
The Bulgarian icon, who won five La Liga titles and one Champions League with Barcelona fell out with LvG in 1998, says that Pedro needs to look at Victor Valdes, his former team mate at Barca, and the way the Spaniard has been treated by Van Gaal at United, to get an idea how difficult it is to play under a strict manager.
“He’s mediocre. He destroyed Barca and is destroying Manchester United.
“With what he has done to [Victor] Valdes he has shown he is a bad person. Hopefully Pedro listens to me and doesn’t leave.”
Pedro has reportedly set his heart in leaving Barcelona in search of regular game time. Last season, he saw his first team opportunities at the club being restricted by the sensational form of the Barca’s front three of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
If the reports are to be believed, Pedro will play his last match in Barcelona shirt tonight against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup, before sealing a move to Manchester United. Ed Woodward, the United chairman, has been busy negotiating a deal, €30m as per widespread reports, with Barcelona officials, and the transfer is expected to materialise very shortly.
