Firing Gunners show star quality

Arsenal FC vs Galatasaray Istanbul

Football fans that missed the opening twenty minutes of the Arsenal Manchester United match were unsure whether to adjust their TV sets or pinch themselves as the Gunners shot to a three-nil lead.

A disappointing loss in the Champions League against Olympiacos midweek had Arsenal fans nervous coming up against the daunting task of taking on of Premier League leaders Manchester United.

United came into the game on form after a string of wins that put them atop of the Premier League once again and were hoping to continue their run at the top.

However, Louis van Gaal’s team were yet to take a big scalp this season and were hoping to do so against Arsenal.

Gunners fans were hoping to see their side rise to the occasion in this fixture but what the performance they got was far greater than expected.

Arsenal’s star quality came out firing in the opening twenty minutes of the match, showing exactly why they are some of the biggest names in football.

Alexis Sanchez was hungry from the outset and opened the scoring with a superb finish past David De Gea in the sixth minute. As the Chilean increases his influence and goalscoring tally in Arsenal’s fixtures this season.

Yet, Gunners fans didn’t have to wait too long till the advantage was doubled as a delightful through ball unleashed Mesut Ozil allowing him to speed past the United defence and put Arsenal two goals for the better.

The result was confirmed shortly after with an Alexis Sanchez rocket into the top corner, giving the Chilean a brace and Arsenal all three points within 20-minutes of kick off.

Recent weeks had seen Arsene Wenger receiving plenty of heat from the media and frustrated Arsenal fans as the Gunners have been inconsistent this season.

The issue of their underperforming stars was increasingly highlighted with every disappointing result across their fixtures this season. But this result showed just how devastating Arsenal can be when all their stars are firing.

Gunners’ fans will be overjoyed to see Mesut Ozil net for the side as many have questioned the German’s club form. Whilst Ozil had been below his standards, he clearly showed with his efforts in the Manchester United match that he is far from an afterthought in this Arsenal squad.

The real star turn for Arsenal, however, has been Alexis Sanchez. Since joining the Gunners from Barcelona last season, the Chilean has undoubtedly been Arsenal’s best player and the Manchester United match showed just how vital he is to this Arsenal squad.

After being linked with several strikers in the summer and not signing a single outfield player, Arsene Wenger needed his midfielders to be amongst the goals this season.

With Olivier Giroud being overlooked for Theo Walcott in the center forward role, Wegner has been given some relief now Sanchez and Ozil look to be returning to form.

In the post-match press conference, the Arsenal boss remained positive praising his players and told reporters that you always need to win the big games and then back it up with the next performance.

With this in mind, Arsene Wegner will be hoping his players return to the Emirates fully fit after the International break as they prepare to chase down Manchester City at the top of the league.
