Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis has praised his club team mate Antoine Griezmann and analyses his importance to the side.

The France international has enjoyed a phenomenal debut season at the Calderon last season, where he scored 25 goals for the Rojibalcos in all competitions.

The attacking line up has been further bolstered this season, with Diego Simeone adding players like Jackson Martinez and Luciano Vietto upfront.

When asked to comment what Griezmann brings to the team, Luis said, as quoted by Spanish newspaper AS:

“He has a lot of quality and he’s very fast. But most of all, he scores a lot. I can’t do that, I score once every 50 matches. Not everyone has that goal scoring ability, it’s a big plus to the team.”

Premier League champions Chelsea were thought to be reportedly interested in signing the French international in the summer. However, Atletico were reluctant to sell him and in turn tied him to the club with a fat contract.

Atletico in order to keep their star forward away from the clutches of heavy weight European clubs have inserted a €80m release clause into his contract, the highest in the club’s history.

The new deal also included a significant pay rise for the 24-year-old. Griezmann would improve any side in the world, but as it stands, not many clubs in Europe would be willing to meet his release clause.

Griezmann has started the new 2015-16 season brightly, after scoring the winner against Las Palmas in the opening match and further registering two assists to his name in Atletico’s 3-0 win over Sevilla.
