What the hell???
For starters, there’s no Wes Brown. You’ve GOT to be kidding me. Brown has been United’s best defender in the last three months, and possibly all season. Where Ferdinand has impressed in patches, and Neville has been is ploddy self, Brown has looked assured and played really well. Can’t understand why Campbell, a man totally out of form, was picked in place of Brown.
Theo Walcott? Is Eriksson hoping for a second Rooney? At the very least put Defoe in the squad and not outside it.
Potential first 11 (if all fit):
Neville, Ferdinand, Terry, Cole
Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Cole
There are other alternates available, with the following players likely to come in if people get injured:
– James in goal.
– Carragher in defense.
– Carrick in center midfield.
– Downing and Lennon at the wings.
– Crouch up front.
The selections of Campbell, Jenas and Walcott just don’t make sense. Jenas instead of Kevin Nolan? If you ever needed proof that players dont get picked on form, this is it.
I must say I didnt believe it when there were rumors that Sven would pick Walcott, but it seems to me that he’s looking for someone similar to Henry in the team. Problem is, Sven is more likely to throw on Crouch and back him up with Cole before taking a gamble as big as Walcott. With Defoe in the squad, they at least have a straight chance.
Let’s hope the Walcott selection turns out to be golden. As for the rest, poor, poor England.
At least this might convince Nolan to move to United, where he would be the perfect replacement for Scholes, and would give a strong backbone to the midfield as well.
The final squad of 23 is to named next Monday (15th May).
