Chelsea striker Diego Costa could re-join his former club Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Spanish international is apparently unsettled in London and wants a return to La Liga.

AS claim that Atletico Madrid are interested in the player and Diego Simeone is also keen on signing him if both clubs can agree on a reasonable fee.

Chelsea announced the signing of Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi yesterday and the Spanish publication add that Antonio Conte wants to sign another striker this summer. In that case, Diego Costa would be forced out of the club.

The article states that Costa is one step closer to joining Atletico Madrid after the Batshuayi transfer and another arrival could fulfill the player’s wish of an exit. They add that Chelsea have no intention of selling Costa right now, but the arrival of another striker will change that.

AS also mention that Chelsea have intensified efforts to sign the Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine forward is one of the best poachers in world football right now and signing him would definitely end Costa’s time at Chelsea.

Diego Costa was signed by the current Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in 2014 and the Spaniard had an explosive debut season with the Blues. Costa scored 20 goals in 26 Premier League games in his debut season and helped the Londoners win the league.

His second season was completely different as the 27 year old struggled with fitness issues. He was also surrounded with a lot of controversy for his behaviour on the pitch. Costa picked up bans for his clash with rival players – Gabriel (Arsenal), Skrtel and Emre Can (Liverpool).

Costa however picked up some form under Hiddink and managed to end the season with 16 goals in 41 appearances.

It will be interesting to see if the Blues sanction a sale for their star striker this summer. They have been linked with the likes of Higuain, Morata and Pelle.
