The night went from bad to worse when star striker Diego Costa went off with a rib injury. The Brazilian has been in poor form this season but has looked like Chelsea’s most potent attacking threat.
Jose Mourinho confirmed that Costa has picked up a rib injury and has been hospitalized. The Portuguese manager refused to give a time-frame for his recovery and it seems the striker could be out of Saturday’s clash against Liverpool.
Mourinho said: “He is in the hospital – I don’t know.”
On how serious the injury was, Mourinho responded : “I think he punched himself”
Chelsea and Mourinho are under tremendous pressure after their dismal start to this season and the Liverpool game could have a significant bearing on the manager’s future.
There are rumours that Mourinho has already sounded out other clubs should Chelsea sack him and a defeat on Saturday could just be the end of him.
Loic Remy scored a late equaliser against Stoke yesterday and looks set to start against Jurgen Klopp’s side on Saturday.
Meanwhile, star winger Eden Hazard’s miseries are set to continue after the Belgian’s missed penalty helped Stoke qualify for the next round.
