Hull City have confirmed the crest change for the 2014-15 season after unveiling the new crest on Friday.

The Premier League club in owned by the Egyptian-born Yorkshire businessman Assem Allam and has decided to change the club’s crest, which does not include the club’s name.

Hull’s vice-chairman Ehab Allam expressed his delight after unveiling the new crest and claims it as to be their major step into European competition. After finishing as the runners-up in the FA Cup last season, the Tigers have made it to the next season’s Europa League.

“We are delighted to unveil our new crest for 2014/15,” Allam told the club’s official website.

“This is a more stripped back and modern approach which still celebrates the Club’s heritage and history by focusing on our famous and well established Tigers head. We have also introduced ‘1904’ to the crest to document the year our club was formed.”

“Our first ever step into European competition is a new era for us all and we are all excited about the season ahead,” he added.

The new crest will be included in Hull’s kit next season, eliminating the old one. The decision by the Allam family to change the crest will not go down well with many of the loyal club fans, who have been supporting their beloved club over the decades.

Assem took over the club in October 2010 and controversies have been surrounding since he took charge of the club’s chairman. Before the start of the season, Hull chief wanted to change the club’s name from Hull City to Hull Tigers as he believes the term “City” is widely used.

Assem’s decision of name change was turned down by the Football Association (FA). However, they have added “Tigers” in their official website, which is now www.hullcitytigers.com.

Hull’s chairman’s decision to change the crest is a real shame. The FA needs to bring in strict regulations in order to stop the owners from changing the pride of the club, which includes crest, logo, kit colours and many more.

Recently we had Vincent Tan change Cardiff City’s home jersey colour and wanted to bring in few more changes at the club. He has been opposed by the Welsh clubs’ fans and their off field issues had a direct impact on their performance on the pitch.

Cardiff were relegated to the Championship and with Assem bringing changes at Hull, one needs to wait and watch if this would have an impact on their on-field performances.  However, their decision to change the crest will not go well with the club’s loyal fans.

Do you think the FA should intervene and stop the club owners doing such changes? Please do let us know your thoughts?
