The 22-year-old Belgian will sign a five-year contract with the German side following the completion of a medical, and will be officially presented in the next few days, after formalities between the two clubs have been ironed out.

Belgian news site HLN.BE also broke the news, and said that De Bruyne may join up with his new Wolfsburg teammates in their training camp in China following his presentation to the media in the next 48 hours.

Italian sports journalist announced De Bruyne’s Chelsea departure on Twitter today, and speculated that the Belgian’s exit could hasten Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic’s Chelsea return,

De Bruyne enjoyed a successful loan spell at German side Werder Bremen last season, and has been eager to return following his lack of first team opportunities at Chelsea.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho had previously expressed his wish for the attacker to remain at Stamford Bridge, but with the World Cup looming large, the Belgian has decided to repair his reputation in Germany.

What do you think? Will Chelsea regret letting him leave? Let me know in the comments below…
