Chelsea Transfer News: Pato to arrive this week?

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink admitted last week that he would be looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

He insisted that the Blues are short in terms of options up front and are considering a move for a striker this month.

Chelsea are left with only one fit striker, following injuries to Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao, and the Blues are keen to add more depth in that department.

Loic Remy, the only fit striker, has hardly featured this season, although Hiddink has another option in Patrick Bamford, who returned to the club earlier this month after an unsuccessful loan spell at Crystal Palace.

Could that striker be Alexandre Pato?

ESPN Brazil reported last week that Pato’s agent was in London to finalise his move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with Pato, who will be earning around £33,000 a week at the London club.

Pato rose to stardom during his time at AC Milan, but injuries stalled his progress, forcing him to return home with Corinthians.

The 26-year-old has been injury free over the last two years and managed to recapture his old form. He has scored 26 goals last season, and the Brazil international is now looking to re-establish himself at a big European club.

Costa got injured during Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Everton on Saturday, and although the injury is not too serious, he is still a major doubt for Sunday’s London derby against Arsenal.

According to reports from Globo Esporte, Pato is likely to complete his move within this week. However, he is still short of match fitness and probably will not be risked on Sunday.
