Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge since the end of last season. The Spaniard has struggled to hold down a regular starting position under Antonio Conte and could be on his way out of the club at the end of this season.

According to London Evening Standard, Italian giants AC Milan are eyeing up a move for the World Cup winner and their club directors flew into London on Saturday to make inquiries about Fabregas’ availability.

The 29-year-old has not played for Chelsea since their 3-0 defeat against Arsenal and is behind Matic, Kante and Oscar in the pecking order. Fabregas started just once in the league so far and is clearly not a key part of Conte’s plans.

The Spaniard joined Chelsea in 2014 under José Mourinho in a £30m transfer and was crucial to their title win that season.

Milan want to sign the Chelsea midfielder as a replacement for their injured star Riccardo Montolivo. The Italian international has picked up a serious knee injury. Evening Standard add that Milan have been interested in the Premier League midfielder since the summer transfer window.

Considering the fact that the Serie A side want Fabregas to replace Montolivo, it can be assumed that they want to sign the player in January. There are no reports on whether Chelsea are willing to sell the player during the winter window.

The transfer saga took an interesting twist when Fabregas’ wife took to Twitter to laugh off these claims from the media. According to her, the story is made up. In that case, Fabregas is clearly staying put and it also fits in with Conte’s comments earlier. The Italian did mention that Fabregas is a part of his plans.

Furthermore, his wife also laughed off claims about the Chelsea star searching for a house in Milan after deciding in favour of a move.
