Roma midfielder, Radja Nainggolan, was linked with a move to Stamford Bridge all summer.

The Belgian midfielder was a priority target for Antonio Conte, but a move never materialised due to the Italian side’s reluctance to sell. However, latest reports indicate that the Blues have not given up on the chase and will renew their interest in January.

Conte remains a fan of the combative Roma midfielder, and is ready to sell one of his star players in order to sign him. The report adds that Chelsea would consider selling Nemanja Matic to Manchester United if it helps them sign Radja Nainggolan. Matic was linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer, but there is no guarantee that they are still interested in him.

In theory, Matic could be an outstanding partner for Paul Pogba, and Mourinho should jump at the chance to sign him. The Serbian has been in superb form this season, and Conte wanting to sell him to Chelsea’s direct rivals, United, makes very little sense. Also, Roma are unlikely to sell Nainggolan midway through the season as it might damage their hopes of Champions League qualification. Although the report states that Nainggolan is unhappy with Roma because of unfulfilled promises regarding a bumper new contract, he is still contracted to them and they can force him to stay.

Overall, the report lacks credibility and seems impossible at this stage. However, if Chelsea do decide to move forward with this shocking plan in January, Manchester United could end up being the real winners. Matic would be an excellent addition for them and might even save their stuttering season.

In other news, Conte is eyeing a move for the world-class Real Madrid winger James Rodriguez.

The Italian manager is thought to be a long-term admirer of the Colombian star and is ready to fight José Mourinho in order to land him. Rodriguez is thought to be unhappy at Real Madrid and Express are reporting that the player has a poor relationship with Zinedine Zidane.

The 25-year-old cost £63 million back in 2014, and would be an excellent addition to any Premier League side. Furthermore, his style of play would fit in perfectly at Chelsea and Manchester United as well.

Express add that Conte wants to sign the player in January and will make his move soon.
