Premier League giants Chelsea have reportedly joined the race in signing Cagliari youngster Godfrey Donsah, according to reports in Italy. Arsenal and Manchester City had previously shown an interest in the Ghana midfielder, with reports emerging, the Premier League clubs even sent scouts to watch the youngster on several occasions.

According to reports from TuttomercatowebCagliari have rejected a 6m bid from an unnamed club. However, TMW adds that Juventus and Sampdoria are interested in signing the young midfielder.

“We had a chat a few weeks ago with Juventus and Chelsea, but I am stunned by all these rumours around him. The lad needs to grow up with us,” the Sardinian President Tommaso Giulini told the reporters.

“We have many other players on low wages and their contracts will be renewed at the right time, including Donsah’s.

“We received a request to attend a meeting via a lawyer, but I am accustomed to doing things a different way. As soon as the right moment comes, we’ll be happy to renew his contract.”

Chelsea have had a quiet transfer window, with the Blues having confirmed four signings (Brazilian midfielder Nathan, Croatian Danilo Pantic, Colombia’s Radamel Falcao and former Stoke City goal keeper Asmir Begovic) in the summer. The Premier League champions are looking to bring in a solid left back, after they allowed Brazilian defender Filipe Luis ti return back to his old club, Atletico Madrid.

If the reports in the media are to be believed, Chelsea are planning to sign Abdul Rahman Baba from Bundesliga outfit Augsburg. The Ghana defender has already agreed a personal deal with the Blues, as confirmed by his agent, and is expected to join Chelsea before the transfer window slam shut.
