Chelsea are ready to trigger the release clause of the Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.

The Swedish international is highly rated around Europe and Antonio Conte wants him to strengthen Chelsea’s defensive options.

The 22 year old defender was a target for Manchester United as well, but Mourinho signing Eric Bailly earlier this summer has allowed Chelsea a clear run at the player now.

Earlier this summer, Manchester United submitted a bid for the player, but nothing came of it.

Now the Portuguese media are reporting that Chelsea are keen on signing the player without wasting any time and will therefore trigger his release clause (30 million Euros).

If the reports are true and Chelsea do lodge an official bid for Lindelof, a transfer could be straightforward. Furthermore, it will also be quite easy to complete the formalities of the deal considering the player is already in United Kingdom right now.

The 22 year old is currently training at St George’s Park with Benfica.

The Sweden star can operate as a centre back, right back as well as a defensive midfielder and could be a great addition to Conte’s side. The likes of Cahill and Ivanovic have regressed massively and now would be a good time to move them on.
