Benfica defender Victor Lindelof has been linked with Manchester United since the start of this month.

The 22-year-old was expected to sign for the Old Trafford outfit after reports emerged that the Premier League giants had agreed on a fee with Benfica for the player. However, the move never materialised and Daily Mirror are now reporting that Lindelof is a priority target for Chelsea.

The report adds that Conte has had glowing reports about Lindelof and will make a move for him at the end of this season. It is no secret that Chelsea are in the market for a centre-back. Conte tried his best to sign a central defender last summer. With Terry and Ivanovic expected to leave at the end of this season, the Blues will need to sign a centre-back or two.

Lindelof is regarded as one of the most talented young defenders in Europe right now and is already a key player for his club and country. He could be the ideal partner for Luiz or Bailly at either club.

It is being reported that the player is valued at around £38m and Jose Mourinho might bring his plans to sign the player forward after Chelsea’s interest in him. Manchester United do not want to miss out on a player who is rated highly by their manager.

Lindelof can operate as a centre-back as well, as a right back, and will be expected to lay the foundations of a rock-solid defence alongside Bailly and Shaw for years to come.
