Chelsea take on Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge. The Blues trail 2-1 from the first leg, and face an uphill task to turn it around against the French champions. Guus Hiddink’s men will go through if they are able to get on the scoresheet and keep a clean sheet. That is easier said than though, as their backline has leaked goals freely this season. The onus to come out and attack will also be on Chelsea, which will leave even more spaces for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Co. to exploit.

Their chances have been dealt a further blow, with Hiddink ruling out captain John Terry from the game. The centre-back has missed the last 5 games with a hamstring problem sustained against Newcastle United in February. It was suspected that he might have a slight chance of returning against PSG.

But Hiddink, as quoted here by Chelsea’s official website said, “We’d like to have all our defensive players available, but I don’t think John will make Wednesday.

“For the time being there has not been enough development to put him on the list on Wednesday. It’s not worse – he can run, but he still cannot go into a longer stretch which you do when you accelerate – there he must be careful.”

The Blues are in the middle of an absolutely dismal season in the English Premier League, and are in line for their lowest finish since the 1995/96 season, when they ended the campaign in 11th. They are currently in 10th place, with 9 games to go. It looks like the only way they will qualify for next season’s Champions League is by lifting the big-ears trophy this year. While that cannot be discounted as an absolute improbability, it does seem extremely unlikely in the current scheme of things.
