Chelsea Determined To Beat Spurs & Arsenal for Jackson Martinez

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Porto striker Jackson Martinez in the January transfer window as manager Jose Mourinho is determined to bolster his attacking options.

According to reports from Daily Mirror, the Blues are preparing a £20m offer for the Colombia striker, who has three years still left on his contract.

Martinez was linked with Arsenal and Tottenham in the summer but it seems like Chelsea are looking to make the first move for the striker. According to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, Jackson has a release clause of 40m Euros, so, Chelsea will have to raise their offer in order to scalp him in the next transfer window.

Chelsea were linked with several top strikers in the summer including Edinson Cavani but the Blues had only managed to land Samuel Eto’o from Russian club Anzhi. Mourinho initially insisted that he is happy with his squad, but feels the need to reinforce, following the lackluster performances of his strikers.

Former Liverpool star Fernando Torres and ex-Newcastle striker Demba Ba have failed to contribute a single goal in the league and no wonder why Mourinho is desperate to shake things up at Stamford Bridge. Youngster Romelu Lukaku has been firing all cylinders this season but Chelsea cannot recall before the end of the season, after sending him on a season-long-loan to Everton. The Blues were also linked with Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz and it has been reported that either of Ba or Torres could move to the opposite direction.

Martinez could be an ideal solution here. He is 27 and is one of the in-form strikers in Europe at the moment, having scored 33 goals in 37 games for Porto since joining the club in 2012. His price-tag could be a problem for the Blues but Mourinho’s deep connection with the Portuguese club could see the striker making his dream move to West London in few months time.
