Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Nantes defender Papy Djilobodji, according to reports from French newspaper L’Equipe.

The Blues have reportedly paid a paltry fee of €3m for the 26-year-old Senegal defender. He will sign a four year contract at the London club.

Chelsea were looking to sign a central defender to their ranks, following a stuttering start to the season, where both John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic have fared miserably so far.

Everton defender John Stones was thought to be a reported target, but Chelsea pulled out of the deal, after the Toffees made it clear that their star player is not for sale. The Blues have been linked with a move for Ezequiel Garay as well.

L’Equipe understands that the decision to sign Djilobodji has come from Chelsea’s scouting department rather than Mourinho, so he will have to prove himself to the Chelsea boss in order to get regular game time.

The Senegal defender will undergo a medical today, and thereafter the deal will be officially announced.

It has been a productive summer for Chelsea, with the Premier League champions having added eight players – Pedro, Rahman Baba, Begovic, Kenedy, Nathan, Manea, Pantic (free), and Falcao – to their already star studded squad.
