Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is surprised and worried with Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Loftus-Cheek is highly rated at Chelsea and the Premier League champions are convinced that he can go on to become a first team star for them in future.

After John Terry, the young English midfielder could be the first player to establish himself as a starter for Chelsea and the board are worried that Mourinho’s behaviour might force their best young talent out of the club.

Jose Mourinho criticised the player publicly for lacking intensity and tactical intelligence earlier this season and since then the Portuguese has failed to deliver on his promise.

Mourinho promised a lot more game time to Loftus-Cheek since the defeat against Southampton, but has only played him for 45 minutes against Aston Villa.

Roman Abramovich is worried about losing the youngster and has encouraged him personally and has taken a keen interest in his development.

Elsewhere, Chelsea are also assessing their options ahead of the January transfer window.

After Diego Costa’s spat with Jose Mourinho against Maccabi earlier this week, Chelsea are keen to add a new striker in January.

The likes of Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as a short term fix.

Chelsea’s primary targets, Harry Kane, Higuain, Griezmann etc are unavailable in January.
