Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool will beat Manchester City at Anfield this month to win the title.

Liverpool went to the top of the league after demolishing Tottenham 4-0 at Anfield on Sunday to take advantage after both Chelsea and Manchester City dropped points.

City trail Liverpool by four points, but have two games in hand, and remain favourites to win the league, but not according to Jamie Carragher.

“I think Liverpool will win it now,” said Jamie Carragher on Sky’s Monday Night Football.

“The feeling before the weekend was ‘we’ve got a chance,’ but the results and the intensity Liverpool played with has changed that. I’m talking about the crowd; I’m talking about the Kop. You hear the roar at the end of the game and you know something’s happening.”

“They are chanting for Brendan Rodgers throughout the game and I’ve never heard that before as much. They are normally singing Kenny Dalglish’s name or for Rafa Benitez a little bit, but it was all for the manager Brendan Rodgers.

“After this game there is a major belief that Liverpool will go on and win the league. There’s a banner in the crowd now: ‘make us dream’ and I think they’re making the supporters believe now.

“With the way they are playing – and the pace and energy they’ve got – it will be very difficult for Man City to go there and take three points.

“I can only see Liverpool winning that game.”

Carragher also thinks Liverpool are under no pressure and if they fail to win the title, and it will not be considered as a disappointment.

“Of the sides in the title race, I think Liverpool are under the least pressure as no-one really expected them to be in the position they are in.” Carragher added,

“If Liverpool don’t win the title now, everyone outside the club will probably not see it as a big deal – but I’m sure they will do inside as they really do have a great chance of topping the Premier League.

“The aim at the start of the season was to get back in the Champions League and that is pretty much secure now as I can’t see anyone catching the current top four, and I think my old side will finish third at worst after Arsenal’s defeat to Chelsea.

“So while I don’t think Brendan Rodgers and his team would regard, say, a third-placed finish as a disappointment, there would be a tinge of regret and a thought of ‘what might have been’ if they don’t lift the title”

Jamie Carragher was part of the Liverpool side that won the Champions League in 2005, and despite the magic of that evening, Carragher reckond winning the Premier League could be an even bigger achievement.

“I think this Liverpool team is better than the side that won the Champions League in 2005, but you could argue that winning the Premier League this season would be a bigger achievement, considering the hoodoo it would break and the fact it is decided over 38 games.” continued Carragher,

“I am certain that they can do it and I don’t think you could pick a favourite between them, Man City and Chelsea, even though Jose Mourinho’s team sit top at the moment and Manuel Pellegrini’s team have games in hand.

“City have more games to play but some of them are very difficult – Man United, Arsenal and Everton, in particular – while Chelsea have the Champions League to contend with, firstly against Paris Saint-Germain.

“Plus, Liverpool still have to play both Chelsea and Man City at home in April, so if they could get six points from those matches I think they would win the Premier League and if they got four I would still lean towards them.”

Jamie Carragher also said that former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is the player he would compare Luis Suarez to. Luis Suarez has scored 29 goals this season and assisted another 11.

He said: “He’ll be as close you get to Thierry Henry. As close as anybody in the Premier League era.

“He has goals, assists, and conjures up moments of magic, he’s the full package.

“If he leads them to the title that’s the calibre we’re talking about.”
