Turkish side Besiktas have revealed that they have activated a clause to loan Benfica attacker Anderson Talisca for a further 12 months, the Sun report.

In an interview earlier this month, Talisca claimed that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is his long-term admirer and that he was hopeful of completing his potential move to Old Trafford later this summer.

Talisca spent the entire 2016/17 campaign away on loan at Besiktas and the Turkish giants have now confirmed that they have triggered a clause in the highly-rated attacker’s contract that will keep him at the club for an additional 12 months, meaning Manchester United will have to wait at least until next summer to lure the 23-year-old to England.

Besiktas’ president of transfer committee Umut Guner told Hurriyet“There is no deal with Manchester United or anyone else in place

“We agreed to a two-year deal with Benfica. The loan did have a clause that the option [for a second year] had to be activated, which we did.

“Talisca will stay at Besiktas on loan for another season. Reports claiming that he can be signed for his €25m (£22m) release clause are false, he has a deal with us.

“If a club wants to sign him now they will have to wait another 12 months.”

Talisca scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 33 appearances for Besiktas last season and has reportedly attracted interest from several European clubs.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have already completed the signing of Swedish defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica but a proposed move for the Portuguese club’s Brazilian star looks all but over.
