It’s another cracking piece of business from Los Rojiblancos. After signing Stefan Savic from Fiorentina early this week, the La Liga giants have followed up with another terrific piece of business. Welcome, Bernard Mensah to Atleti.

Atletico have confirmed the signing of Mensah from Victoria Guimaraes, via the club’s official website. The Ghana international has signed a six-year-deal at the Calderon, but will be allowed to join Getafe on a season long loan.

A statement on Atletico’s website read: “Bernard Mensah is an Atletico Madrid player after an agreement was reached with Guimarares.

“The midfielder is known for his speed and driving with the ball. At 20 he is already a full international for Ghana.”

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Valencia. His agent Jorge Mendes had been trying to bring him to Old Trafford, if the reports were to be believed.

Mensah, who scored five goals for his club last season, revealed back in May that his agent had been negotiating a deal with Manchester United.

The player said: “It’s true that United want to sign me. I haven’t talked to anyone from United, but I know from my agent that they are currently negotiating with my club. Right now, I’m focused on Vitória though.”

At this moment, we are not too sure about the financial figures, but from our previous reports, we can confirm that Mendes will collect a handsome cheque from his client, as he owns 35% of Mensah’s economic rights.
