Hotels in Berlin are hoping to cash in on this year’s UEFA Champions League Final between Juventus and Barcelona, which takes place in the German capital on June 6th, by drastically increasing their rates for the day of the match. According to a survey by Cheaprooms.co.uk, many hotels are raising their prices by eye-popping levels due to demand from fans desperate to attend one of sport’s most high-status events.

With accommodation options rapidly running out, the remaining 15% of hotels in the city with availability for June 6th have hiked their prices by an average of 267%, while some are levying an every higher amount onto their standard rates, the survey reveals.

Some of the properties to have pushed their prices through the roof include Axel Hotel in the Schoneberg district, where rooms are being offered for a cool $1,299 euros, a more than 900% jump from standard rates, while East Side Hotel in the Friedrichshain district has gone even further, charging €1,145 euros for a room, a rise of more than 1000%.

Speaking about the results of the survey, Paul Joseph from Cheaprooms.co.uk  described them as unprecedented for the city. “Not even for an event such as New Year’s Eve has there ever been such an impact on Berlin hotel prices,” he said.

At time of writing, the most affordable double room in the city costs around €250 euros and is available at a budget hotel in the Charlottenburg district. For a better class of hotel, 3 stars or upwards, visitors would have to shell out closer to €400 euros.
