Manchester United midfielder, Bastian Schweinsteiger, is set to feature against West Ham United in the EFL Cup tonight if recent reports are to be believed.

Sky Sports are claiming that senior figures at the club are impressed with Schweinsteiger’s mentality and attitude, despite being banished from the first team. The former Bayern Munich star has been overlooked by Mourinho, and was even asked to train away from the first-team squad.

However, the World Cup winner was recalled to first team training last week, and he was named on the bench during United’s last Premier League outing as well. With Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini suspended for tonight’s game, it seems that Mourinho will have to rely on the likes of Carrick and Schweinsteiger against West Ham.

Considering the current situation, United will be glad that Schweinsteiger decided to stay put, despite the mistreatment. The player was asked to find himself a new club, and there were talks with MLS clubs, as well.

It will be interesting to see if Mourinho chooses to start the German for tonight’s must-win cup game at Old Trafford. Schweinsteiger has not played a single minute of first-team football under Mourinho, and will be lacking in match fitness. Although he is expected to feature at some point, a start might not be possible for him just yet.
