Stuttgart v Barcelona
UEFA Champions League Round of 16 1st Leg
Mercedes-Benz Arena – Stuttgart, Germany
23 February 2010 – 19:45 GMT

Defending champions Barcelona will travel to Bundesliga side Stuttgart on Tuesday night in the next set of Round 16 Champions League matches.

Stuttgart v Barcelona Preview

One of the clear favorites for the tournament, FC Barcelona, will travel to Germany in the first leg of the round of 16. Barcelona did not have an easy route to the knockout stage as they had a 3-2-1 record and won Group F by two points. Stuttgart was second in Group G with a 2-3-1 record and had to win their final group stage match to qualify.

Barcelona will likely need only a draw or to be within one goal by the end of the first leg. Injuries should not be an issue because they will have Dani Alves, Xavi, and Ibrahimovic all available. Along with Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry, Barcelona will test the Stuttgart defense for 90 minutes. Barcelona has shown they can be vulnerable in the Champions League on the road. They had two scoreless draws and only two goals scored in three away matches.

Stuttgart will need to score goals in the first leg. A 0-0 draw will do no good as Barcelona are almost a lock to win the second leg at the Camp Nou. Can Stuttgart get an upset or will Barcelona move one step closer to the quarterfinals?
