Chelsea striker Diego Costa is keen on a return to Atletico Madrid, the La Liga club’s President Cerezo has confirmed.

Costa was a major hit under Simeone and there were reports throughout last season that Diego Costa wants a move back to Spain.

Diego Costa had a superb debut season with Chelsea and guided them to the Premier League title. But the Spanish international struggled to get going last season and only found some form towards the end of the season.

The Chelsea star was instrumental during Atletico Madrid’s title winning season and it seems that he wants to recreate those days under Simeone again.

Previously, Filipe Luis also returned to Atletico Madrid after joining Chelsea permanently. Apparently Diego Costa has already informed Atletico Madrid of his desire to return.

Cerezo said: “We are there, he wants to come. But that is already complicated”.

“Simeone wants new players and one of those is a striker.”

“We desire a striker with goals, a good salary, and the ability to help us win many trophies.”

His suspensions and poor form last season has fuelled rumours that Costa is angling for a move away from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have already released Falcao and Pato. Unless they sign another striker, it is highly unlikely that they will let go of Costa.

The Blues have been linked with Morata and Lukaku this summer and if Conte manages to land the duo, an exit for Costa might be a possibility then.
