La Liga club Atletico Madrid have inserted a massive buy-out clause into the new contract of star forward Antoine Griezmann. The 24-year-old French international impressed heavily in his first season at the club, where he scored 25 goals in all competition.

When you receive a lot of offers for your players you’re obligated to revise the contracts of said players. That is precisely the reason Atletico recently renewed Griezmann’s contract, giving him an €80m release clause (as per Marca/ newspaper version) – the highest in the club’s history.

It goes without saying that the new deal also included a significant pay rise. PSG were interested in him this summer and had offered €60m for him. The same will happen with Godin, who rejected a move to City, and he’ll soon have a much higher release clause.

Griezmann, who previously had a €65m release clause, was also a reported target of both Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Back in May, The Guardian reported that Chelsea were considering making a formal move for the French forward.

With PSG having already signed Angel di Maria, Bayern Munich probably would not be willing to pay anywhere near that price, the temptations are thrown before Chelsea to make a big money move for the French star.

Griezmann, with his versatility and abundance of quality, is the right profile of player that can improve Chelsea’s squad, but as it stands, very few clubs in the world would be willing to pay that amount.
