Arsene Wenger has suggested Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Hull City in the FA Cup final at Wembley will mark a start of a new era at the Emirates.

The Gunners ended their nine-year long trophy drought by making a comeback in winning the cup on Saturday. Steve Bruce’s side struck twice early in the game as goals from James Chester and Curtis Davies before Santi Cazorla pulled one back before half time.

Laurent Koscielny equalised for the north London club in the second half before Aaron Ramsey’s winner in the extra time saw Arsenal make a comeback to win the FA Cup and end their trophy drought.

While Arsenal were always favourites to win as per Betfair.com’s odds, they have a recent history of losing in cup finals and failing in sight of the finish line. With that in mind, the Gunners manager was delighted with the manner in which side fought against Hull and was delighted that Arsenal (finally) made history at Wembley.

“We wanted to make history tonight and win the game and we did that in both ways – how not to start the Cup final and how to come back. I think it was a turning point in the life time of this team – to know they can win in that way was really important today,” Wenger said.

“It would have been terrible [to lose] but we came back. I’ve praised the spirit of this team and they showed that today.”

With Arsenal finally getting silverware to the Emirates, the club chiefs would be looking to tie down Wenger with a new contract. The Frenchman is out of contract and is yet to sign an extension.

Meanwhile, Ramsey has expressed his joy after lifting his first medal as an Arsenal player. The Welsh international has dedicated his goal to Wenger and the Gunners fans.

“I get emotional thinking about it.  We have conceded early in lots of big games this season, but we showed great strength of character to come back and to score the winner is something I have dreamed off,” Ramsey expressed.

“This one is for the manager and the fans who have always believed in us, even when things have not gone well for us,” Arsenal midfielder added.
