Arsenal striker, Olivier Giroud, has said that he is close to signing a new contract with the Gunners.

The 30-year-old struggled to break into the Arsenal starting XI this season, with Arsene Wenger using Alexis Sánchez as the primary striker. The Frenchman has, however, rediscovered his form, having scored four goals in as many appearances.

Giroud scored in the last minute as Arsenal defeated Preston in the FA Cup third round on Saturday. The striker also scored in stoppage time to secure a dramatic 3-3 comeback draw against Bournemouth.

The Frenchman said, in an interview to Telefoot:

We are about to reach an agreement for an extension (to my contract).

It was also a gesture of confidence, I want to continue the adventure here in this family of Arsenal. I feel good here. When I spoke to the coach, he always told me that I was an important player.

I know what I am capable of. I just needed to be patient, to work in training and wait for my hour to come.

Moving to the other news, Arsenal midfielder, Gedion Zelalem, is close to leaving the London club in the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old midfielder has made one substitute appearances in the EFL Cup this season, and doesn’t feature in Arsène Wenger’s long term plans. According to reports from ESPN, German giants, Borussia Dortmund, are hoping to lure him away with the promise of first-team opportunities.

The attacking midfielder will be out of contract at Arsenal in the summer, and Dortmund can hope to land Zelalem for a cut-price fee in January. The player himself is keen on a return to Germany, and especially to Dortmund, as his father is a Borussia fan.
