Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne has signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club till 2019. The 23 year old has been in impressive form this season and was stunning in the Partneopei’s 2-0 win over Roma in the weekend.

Napoli confirmed the news in Twitter and a statement in their official website read, “The President Aurelio De Laurentiis and Lorenzo met in the offices of Filmauro in Rome and have signed a contract until June 30, 2019.”

Though the news would come as a great satisfaction for manager Rafa Benitez who has lauded the youngster ever since he took over last season, Arsenal fans would be heartbroken with the recent developments.

The Gunners had earlier tabled a €20m bid for the player in the summer transfer window but it was rejected by the Italian club. President Aurelio De Laurentiis also laughed off the claims saying, “Arsenal offers 20 million for Insigne? This makes me laugh. I want to make Insigne rise to a value of 60-70million.”

Insigne’s agent had also highlighted his client’s ambitions stating that he wanted to remain at Naples for as long as possible. “He dreams of becoming Napoli captain, so today I doubt there are any sides that could put his position in doubt. Of course, the only alternative is if the club decides to do differently. In that case, we’d be forced to re-evaluate our own plans.”

Arsenal will now have to look elsewhere to get a similar player to Insigne’s class and potential in the upcoming transfer window.
